If you buy, sell, trade or broker vehicles for profit, you need to qualify as a dealer from the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Salespeople are not considered dealers, so they don’t need a dealer license, but they do need to meet certain requirements to be a salesperson’s.

All automotive dealership applicants will be required to undergo a criminal background investigation. The DMV is looking for not only crimes, but examples of “moral turpitude” that suggest that someone wouldn’t run an ethical dealership.

It’s not cheap, but if you’re not sure whether you are eligible for a dealer license a previous conviction, some DMVs allow you to file an abbreviated application. You’ll still pay the application fee, but the state will let you know whether it would grant you a license―before you go to the trouble of setting up your business, obtaining a surety bond and so forth.

Yes, an employer identification number, or EIN, is also known as a taxpayer identification number, or TIN.
If you do not have a Social Security Number, you must have an ITIN in order to apply for an EIN. We can obtain this for you by special request. The cost is also $89.

The principal officer, general partner, grantor, owner, trustor etc. must have a valid Taxpayer Identification Number (Social Security Number, Employer Identification Number, or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number) in order to use the online application.
If you were incorporated outside of the United States or the U.S. territories, you cannot apply for an EIN online.
